This article appears in the Post’s Guest Voices area. In light of the problems at Penn State, it is one of the best observations I have read.

Just saw Hammett!
He is in the critical care unit, in a fair amount of pain. All of us have seen him. Jennifer is with him now. Thank you, to everyone.

THE KIDNEY IS IN, WORKING
The surgeon says Hammett is getting ready to go to recovery. It is a very good, healthy kidney, for which we are very grateful. The surgery was slow because of all of the scar tissue. Now, we are waiting to see Hammett.

UPDATE ON HAMMETT
He’s still in surgery. Surgeon wading through scar tissue making room for yet another kidney. They will not take out his original kidneys, or the transplanted kidney that quit after more than 13 years. Too dangerous. So, if all goes well, when they finish he will have four kidneys but only one that works.
